Calheta de Nesquim parish
This old and important port was once a whaling base. This is where the first whaler was built in 1876.
In this important whaling port, the boat house, which has been recovered, is worth a visit. Here one finds some authentic examples of boats used in whale hunting, as well as pictures of old whaling boats of Calheta de Nesquim.
In this parish one cannot miss the typical houses with white walls outlined in black stone.
From San Sabastian Parish Church we may enjoy an excellent view of the sea. This terrace was built in the 19 th century on top of a 16 th-century chapel. Inside we find the main alter overlaid with gold.
