Santo António parish
In invocation to the great Portuguese miracle-worker, Santo António encompasses Santana and São Vicente, with its chapels.
Saint Anthony is the patron saint of the the parish church, which dates from the 17th century. It is a small temple composed of a single bell tower, unlike most churches on Pico.
Inside, the altar-piece of the main chapel overlaid with gold is a fine precious piece of art, probably one of the most beautiful on the whole island and the Azores. One cannot miss the impressive statues of remarkable size of Saint Anthony and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
There is also St. Anne’s chapel in Santana and S. Vincent’s chapel in the village with the same name.
In Santo António parish we find interesting windmills, which bring us memories of the past.
It is in this parish that we find the municipal camping park, one of the most beautiful and best equipped in Azores.
